The Secret Agent — Chapter 4

Due to some scheduling conflicts, Andrew will be doing a future chapter, and I've recorded chapter 4. Hope you enjoy. One note, I've found exporting from audacity to mp3 at 40kbps is ideal; 32 kbps is too distorted, and at 48 the file size goes way up. This one's about 38 mins, and came in just over 10MB at 40kbps, and I think the sound's pretty good. Branko, I think you were asking about that re: chap 5? Carnival of the Infosciences #4

The fourth installment of the Carnival of the Infosciences is now up at lis.dom. Thanks to Laura for hosting.

Next week, the Carnival will be hosted at Christina's Library Rant. I implore you to submit your week's best via email to cpikas at gmail dot com.

This is a crucial period for the Carnival, where I think we will really see if this concept has legs or not. It won't work unless we have a critical mass of regular submissions. And I'll be the first to admit that I haven't held up my end of the bargain in that regard. Then again, fatherhood is pretty all-consuming. Anyway, please consider taking a moment to contribute to the Carnival. That's where the fun is.

Show Notes (Part Two)

The ego boost that comes with a logo, monetization, promotion and an urge to interview are the inward-looking topics for show 136. As usual, I need your advice and thank you again for bein’ a part of it all.

Katastrophic Katrina

this is an audio post - click to play

The word hurricane, if memory serves, derives from the name Caribbean Indians had for their storm god. The estimates of damage wrought by Katrina will doubtless be stratospheric! I understand that Jefferson Parish residents are asked to stay away for a week and will be allowed to return only to collect supplies and then are asked to leave for another month. Martial law may be declared. I could wish this disaster might be the means by which New Orleans could rebuild and become again the Paris of North America. May God bless all the victims of this mega-cane.

Hot Summer, More Cool Web Sites

Show #134 alerts you to cooool Web sites covering the worst jobs in history (‘seems like I’ve had many of ‘em), fun career exploration for teens [so they don’t make the same mistakes we have], health information for women, bitter waitresses venting, and a GLBTQ encyclopedia.
